Breast-feeding rates soar 77 percent in US, CDC says

More and more women in the United States are into breastfeeding these days. According to the Center for Disease Control’s 2013 Breastfeeding Report, around 77 percent of mothers, new ones included, in the US are breastfeeding their infants, up from 70 percent some ten years ago. And nearly 50 percent of breastfeeding women are continuing the practice for the recommended 6 months. The CDC report also monitored developments in breastfeeding from 2000 to 2010 across the nation. “This is good news for the health of our society because infants who are being breastfed have lower risks of diabetes, gastrointestinal and ear infections, and obesity, and women who are into breastfeeding have lower risks of ovarian and breast cancers as well,” CDC director Tom Frieden said.
